[Explanation of institution (recruitment background, institution details, explanation of project, etc.)] In "Systems Photonics Laboratory," Toyota Technological Institute, we have been creating photonics systems with novel functions, by considering deeply physical phenomena in photonics devices and lightwaves. Examples are photonics systems for measuring distributed strain along an optical fiber with mm order spatial resolution, and those for signal processing by original schemes to synthesize arbitrarily optical interference properties. Research subjects that have been carried out in the laboratory are as following: Photonics sensing systems with a high sensitivity, such as Fiber Optic Gyros; Photonic sensing and processing with our original technique of "Synthesis of Optical Coherence Function," such as optical tomography; "Fiber Optic Nerve Systems" for structural health monitoring, such as distributed and multiplexed optical fiber sensing; Distributed strain and/or temperature sensing with Brillouin scattering caused in optical fibers.

Among the research subjects, the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow shall be requested to carry out the researches on distributed strain and/or temperature sensing with Brillouin scattering caused in optical fibers. In the laboratory, original schemes for the distributed sensing have been proposed and developed, such "Brillouin Optical Correlation Domain Analysis (BOCDA)"," Brillouin Optical Correlation Domain Reflectometry (BOCDR)", and "Discriminative Distributed Strain and Temperature Sensing with using Brillouin Dynamic Grating (BDG). " These original schemes have already realized ultimate functions, such as mm order spatial resolution, km order measurement range, and 5,000 points/s fast measurement speed under the unique measurement mode of "Random Accessibility" to arbitrarily selected multiple points along the optical fiber. Application trials for structural health monitoring have been carried out, for example, in technical fields of aircrafts and civil engineering.
The Research Fellow shall be expected to create new functions and/or improve the existing functions in the original sensing schemes. The research shall include both the aspects of experimental and theoretical work.

Qualifications PhD in a related field.
Starting Date At the earliest possible date, after the employment contract is completed .
Terms of Employment Yearly contract: renewable up to 3 years if positively evaluated .
Salary JPY 320,000/month,excluding commuting expenses and partial support for housing.
