Optimizing structural “forms” based on solid and computational mechanics, and developing theories and applications

How do you design a dynamically optimal and ideal shape? We conduct research primarily on theories for automatically creating and designing optimal shapes of various structures with computers, and applications of such theories to structural designs, to assist manufacturers and designers. Our research also covers structural analyses and simulation technologies which underpin such theories and applications.

Research Themes

Research on solutions to linear and non-linear free-form optimization problems for designing membrane, plate and shell structures and their applications to practical designs
Research on the optimization of solid structures containing dissimilar materials and its applications to practical designs
Research on free-form optimization method for designing space frame structures with various cost functionals
Structural optimization of shear panel damper under seismic cyclic loading
Research on computer aided structural design systems for developing sustainable light mechanical systems
Research on design methodology with biological and Kansei or sensibility systems
