Modification of Free-Form Surface Using Correction Function for Specified Points and Curves In design of aesthetic surfaces such as an automobile body, designers desire to modify the surfaces by indicating points or curves through which the shape passes smoothly. This method modifies shapes with free-form surfaces using a correction function. A correction function is introduced to define the effect over the whole shape according to the distance along the normal direction of the given surface, and used 2-segments Bezier curve. As for the function for the curve, Cardinal spline is used to prevent the oscillation caused by many input points. For trimming operation of surfaces, the correction function for a boundary point is used the trimming parameter. The trimmed surface is displayed to cut outside of trimming parameters. It is possible to modify the trimmed surface in real-time to pass the specified multiple curves and points. |
