Tomotaka Saito is a candidate of Master’s degree at the advanced polymeric nanocomposite materials laboratory from this April. He is interested in a new type of nanocomposite materials that are based on polymer and organically modified layered titanate (OHTO), as a new nanofiller. These new nanocomposites exhibited remarkable improvement of various materials properties with simultaneous improvement in biodegradability when we use biodegradable PLA as a matrix polymer. Another interesting and exciting aspect of this research is the enhancement of degradability of neat polymer after nanocomposite preparation with OHTO. Because one of the feature of this material is photocatalytic reactivity, such as titania (TiO₂).
